Aministrate your web files directly on your remote host
Are you fed up of using FTP ? want to be able to edit your site files wherever you are , I mean physically without having to install some software on your friends'PC ? Here's the ideal solution : install a php file manager on a special location of your web site and start working on your files from within any internet browser.
I will focus on a single user php file manager that I like a lot because it has a really interesting user interface : WEBinsta FM Manager (currently 0.1.4 only) has all feature you would expect from a remote file manager including editing of files. In terms of usability, a nice DHTML rightclick snippet gives access to basic functions such as "one dir up" or "home" , instead of what I thought would enable all file functions from the right click which would have been handier than having to click on the right icon on the right line which can cause frequent mistakes.
The great bonus with this one is the installation wizard that does a really good job detecting various paths and allowing you to configure access and password for the single user. That one is actually the only drawback I cound find to WEBinsta FM Manager : only one user allowed, which makes it the ideal tool for personal websites but a dangerous potential security issue for large websites.
